IDASH Program Launches for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Region

On April 3, the International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) launched the Informatics and Data Science for Health (IDASH) fellowship training program with an in-person workshop in Tbilisi, Georgia. The program launched in partnership with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Eastern Europe and Central Asia (CDC/EECA) Regional Office, the World Health Organization (WHO) Europe, and country governments.

The Alto Maé Reference Center (CRAM) provides a specialized package of care and treatment services for patients with advanced HIV disease from the urban health network of Maputo, Mozambique.

Since January 1, 2021, the International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) has served as the Ministry of Health’s primary partner for managing CRAM.

I-TECH Says Goodbye to Longtime Executive Director Ann Downer

On June 30, 2020, Dr. Ann Downer retired from her post as the Executive Director of the International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) at the University of Washington (UW).

Downer has had a 31-year career at UW; she founded I-TECH 18 years ago with a talented team of global health professionals at UW, along with her friend and colleague Dr. Michael Reyes, at the University of California, San Francisco. In that time, she has been the center’s trusted leader; a principal investigator for several awards; and a pioneering educator, mentor, and friend.

DGH Announces 2020 Outstanding Staff Award Recipient

The Department of Global Health recently awarded its 2020 Outstanding Staff Award to Noura Youssoufa (Academic Advisor, MPH and Undergraduate Programs). Her role as Academic Advisor includes working with prospective MPH students – both in-person, online, and at conference recruitment events – as well as organizing Visit Days for all admitted graduate students in the department.

I-TECH Receives PEPFAR Funding to Help End the AIDS Epidemic in Zimbabwe

Stefan Wiktor, acting professor of global health at the University of Washington Schools of Public Health and Medicine, has received funding through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to promote HIV prevention and treatment and to help Zimbabwe’s efforts to reach HIV epidemic control. The five-year cooperative agreement, with an annual budget of about $15 million, is administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

UW Implementation Science Student Samantha Dolan Wins Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges Explorations Award

Samantha Dolan, a PhD student in Implementation Science, has received the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges Explorations award to use technology to strengthen health systems aimed at improving data use by healthcare workers in order to increase vaccination uptake amongst children in Kenya.
