Cultivating the Future: New Students, New Ideas, Global Change

The transition to fall signals one of our favorite times of year – the arrival of new students! The Department of Global Health (DGH) is honored to welcome 38 new students to the global health husky pack. Of the 38 students, three are joining the Pathobiology PhD program, four are beginning their studies in the PhD in Global Health Metrics and Implementation Science program, three have started the Doctor of Global Health Leadership and Practice program, and 28 are entering the Master of Global Health program.

Meet the 2022-2023 DGH Research Assistants and Fellows

Each year the UW Department of Global Health is able to provide partial to full funding to recruit top applicants. In addition to financial support, some recipients also receive mentorship and real-world experience through research assistant positions. For the 2022-2023 academic year, 14 outstanding graduate students received funding to support their studies. Learn more about this impressive cohort, including their journeys to arrive at UW and the impact they hope to have on the field of global health.

Amplifying Voices from the Global South

DGH students dreaming of making a positive difference in the world. One group of students was not content to wait until after graduation, so they joined the Global Health Justice Group. In June, Global Health Justice launched a website to amplify the voices and narratives from the Global South which address structural inequities and fundamental political and economic drivers of health that are often absent in the conventional global health discourse.
