Population Health Initiative Recognizes Its Second Anniversary with Release of Community Report

Two years ago, we launched the Population Health Initiative with the goal of bringing our University together with external partners in a more interdisciplinary and collaborative way to speed progress toward improving health and well-being here and around the world. Our vision is grand in scale, but our work proceeds in the knowledge that ultimately, it is the health of communities — and the people in them — that matters.

UW News: UW among Top 10 in U.S. News Best Global Universities Ranking; No. 2 among U.S. Public Institutions

The University of Washington climbed to the No. 10 spot on the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Global Universities rankings, tied with Johns Hopkins University and Yale University. The UW is now second among American public institutions — an improvement from last year’s No. 3 slot.

UW Regents Approve Central Campus Site for Population Health Building to House Collaborative Research and Teaching

The University of Washington Board of Regents on Thursday approved the location for construction of a new building to house the UW’s Population Health Initiative. The centrally located site will bring together the work of the UW’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, Department of Global Health and parts of the School of Public Health while creating easy access for collaborators from other departments across campus and guests from around the world.

AP: Gates Foundation Gives $210 Million to UW, Largest Gift in School History

SEATTLE (AP) - The University of Washington is getting $210 million from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to help build a new facility to advance efforts to improve the health and well-being of people around the world, officials said Tuesday.

The donation from the largest private foundation in the world, located just miles from the Seattle campus, is the largest single gift in the university's history.

University of Washington President Ana Mari Cauce is challenging the people and companies in the Puget Sound area to come up with solutions to improve the health of people in the region and across the country.

She announced Tuesday she is creating a population health leadership council. The group will be charged with developing a 25-year vision for making the UW and the Puget Sound region a global hub for improving population health.
