An interdisciplinary team including UW Department of Global Health faculty Jeremy Hess and Kris Ebi was selected for a pilot research grant award from the University of Washington Population Health Initiative. The award will support the formation of a climate action Collaboratory in Washington State.
Juan Osorio-Valencia from the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington Schools of Public Health and Medicine is one of four graduate students from the UW awarded Social Entrepreneurship Fellowships by the Population Health Initiative.
The Population Health Initiative today announced the award of six Population Health Applied Research Fellowships to four graduate and two undergraduate students. Eileen Kazura, a Master of Public Health student in the Department of Global Health, was one of the students selected for the fellowship program.
The University of Washington Population Health Initiative recently awarded 21 rapid response grants to study COVID-19. Four of these grants include faculty members from the Department of Global Health – Deepa Rao, Kristina Adams Waldorf, Bryan Weiner, and James Mullins.
With its Population Health Initiative, the University of Washington annually distributes research grant funding for one-of-a-kind projects that address unique health challenges here in Washington and around the world. This year, three of the awarded research teams include faculty members from the Department of Global Health: Peter Rabinowitz, Charles Mock, James Pfeiffer, Rachel Chapman, and Steve Gloyd.
On a recent Saturday evening, a dozen women gathered around a table at a community room in the White Center neighborhood of Seattle, settling in with snacks and conversation.

Ali Mokdad has been named the chief strategy officer for Population Health at the University of Washington, President Ana Mari Cauce announced today. In this new role he will be responsible for collaboratively setting and executing the UW’s vision and strategy for the Population Health Initiative, a 25-year effort to create a world where all people can live healthier and more fulfilling lives.
