Dr. Carey Farquhar Receives Global Innovation Fund Award

Dr. Carey Farquhar, professor of medicine (Allergy and Infectious Diseases) and global health, has received a Global Innovation Fund Award from the UW Office of Global Affairs. The UW Global Innovation Fund seeds initiatives and programs, developing cross-college and cross-continent collaborations that enhance the University of Washington’s global reach.

Daniel-Ulloa honored for lifelong learning excellence, rooted in student-centered teaching

Jason Daniel-Ulloa, associate teaching professor in the Departments of Health Systems and Population Health and Global Health, has been awarded the University of Washington’s Distinguished Contributions to Lifelong Learning Award. Presented as part of the UW’s 2025 Awards of Excellence, the honor recognizes full-time faculty who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to teaching and designing courses in non-degree programs that serve professional development, personal growth, and career transformation.

Meet the 2024-25 DGH Research Assistants, Fellows, and Awardees

Each year the University of Washington's (UW) Department of Global Health is able to provide partial to full funding to recruit top applicants. In addition to financial support, some recipients also receive mentorship and real-world experience through research assistant positions. For the 2024-25 academic year, 19 outstanding graduate students received funding to support their studies, 15 of whom are highlighted here. Amanda Li on intentionality and embracing challenging conversations in global health

As a global health master’s student in the UW School of Public Health, Amanda Li has been thoughtfully engaging with Asian American communities in King County, rural communities across the U.S., and global communities in Kenya to support public health communications that align with those populations’ needs and goals. For her academic excellence and commitment to public health, Li received the 2024 Gilbert S. Omenn Award for Academic Excellence, one of the most prestigious School-wide recognitions for master’s and doctoral students.

Two SPH doctoral students named 2024-2025 Magnuson Scholars

Congratulations to University of Washington School of Public Health doctoral students Amanda Brumwell and Miriana Duran on being named 2024–2025 Magnuson Scholars! The scholarships, announced May 9, recognize one student annually from each of the UW Health Sciences schools on the basis of outstanding academic performance and potential contributions to research in the health sciences.
