Call for Abstracts: “Global Health for Women, Children and Adolescents: Making a Difference Across the Lifespan”

Global WACh and the Program for Education and Research in Latin American (PERLA) are pleased to announce a call for abstracts regarding woman, child, and adolescent health research, service, training projects and programs.  Select abstracts will be invited to deliver poster or oral presentations at the Global WACh and PERLA Symposium: “Global Health for Women, Children and Adolescents: Making a Difference Across the Lifespan” on Thursday, November 7th, 2013.

Dr. King K. Holmes to step down as Chair of UW Department of Global Health

We write to announce that Dr. King K. Holmes, William H. Foege Professor and Chair of the UW Department of Global Health, has decided to step down as chair next year.  He will continue to serve as chair until his successor has assumed the chair position.  Thereafter, King will continue as an active member of the Department of Global Health faculty.

Dr. Randall Kyes awarded Fulbright Specialist Grant

Randall Kyes, Research Professor in Psychology and Adjunct in Global Health, Director of the Center for Global Field Study, and Core Scientist at the WaNPRC, was recently awarded a grant as a Fulbright Specialist.  Kyes will travel to Indonesia at the end of June for one-month program that involves giving lectures and conducting short training programs focusing on “Conservation Biology & Global health - at the Human-Environment Interface.”  During the program, Kyes will work with colleagues at the University of Indonesia in Java; Hasanuddin University

Gawande article in The New Yorker mentions UW Global Health START Program research

Atul Gawande's most recent article in The New Yorker, Slow Ideas, examines barriers to the spread of good medical technology, and it highlights the work of University of Washington student analysts from the Strategic Analysis Research and Training (START) program.  START is a collaboration between the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the University of Washington that allows students to provide analysis and research to the Foundation.  Gawande's article mentioned START's comparative case studies
