RESEARCH INTERESTS

Despite widespread vaccination with Bacille Calmette Guerin (BCG), the only current tuberculosis (TB) vaccine, TB, caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb), remains a major global health challenge. BCG can sometimes be successful, so in order to create more effective TB vaccines, we need a better understanding of how BCG works. I study BCG-mediated immunity using the ultra-low dose challenge model, a mouse model developed by the Urdahl lab that uses a lower, more physiologic dose of Mtb challenge than the conventional dose.
