UW School of Medicine Ranked Fifth in AIDS (U.S. News & World Report)

According to annual rankings of graduate and professional programs provided by U.S.News & World Report. the UW School of Medicine was ranked first in the academic specialties of family medicine and rural medicine. It also ranked fifth in AIDS, eighth in internal medicine, ninth in geriatrics, and ninth in pediatrics. The school was also ranked 12th in research. The University of Washington has also been ranked second among primary care medical schools in the country,

King Holmes' Legacy Honored

Dr. King K. Holmes,  chair of the UW Department of Global Health, won the prestigious 2013 Canada Gairdner Global Health Award for his work in sexually transmitted diseases, the Gairdner Foundation announced March 20.
The award, valued at CAN$100,000 (about US$97,300) is one of the world’s most esteemed prizes for medical research. Since 1959, of the 312 individuals presented with a Canada Gairdner Award, 80 have gone on to receive a Nobel Prize.

David Fleming -- a Seattle Powerhouse for Global to Local

Dr. David Fleming, Director, Public Health- Seattle & King County, was named one of the "50 Most Influential People in Seattle Right Now" by Seattle Met Magazine. Dr. Fleming is on the Department's External Advisory Board and is a passionate advocate for the global-to-local movement, often reminding people that health disparities in King County are some of the most extreme in the nation.

Global Health Week on the Hill

The Washington Global Health Alliance, along with PATH, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI), the UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets campaign, World Vision, International Medical Corps, the Institute for Health Metrics & Evaluation at UW, the Global Health Council and the Global Health Technologies Coalition created “Global Health Week on the Hill” Feb. 26-March 5, 2013, o highlight the critical role U.S. foreign assistance plays in health, security and diplomatic efforts worldwide.
