In the 2016 Academic Ranking of World Universities for clinical medicine and pharmacy, the University of Washington has moved up to No. 2 in the world (from No. 3 in 2015) and is now second to only Harvard University.
The list, published by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, evaluates more than 1,200 universities. Shanghai Ranking is recognized for basing its rankings on objective indicators, such as the number of alumni and staff who have won Nobel Prizes, highly cited researchers and publications in top medical journals.
"This prestigious ranking is a tribute to the outstanding work and global impact of our faculty and staff at UW Medicine," said Dean Paul Ramsey. "From basic science research into the mechanisms of disease, to clinical breakthroughs that lead to better treatments and cures, we are successfully executing on our mission to improve the health of the public."
UW Medicine faculty and staff also contribute to a No. 6 ranking in Life and Agriculture Sciences, which includes the fields of molecular biology and genetics, immunology and neurosciences. In its overall rankings, the UW is No. 15 in the world. For more information, see the ranking.
