Dr. Susan Graham has taken over this year as the Director of the Global Health Pathway, a certificate program that requires a combination of a scholarly project, coursework, an international experience, a cross-cultural clinic experience, and community involvement, spread over the four years of medical education. Dr. Graham has directed the concurrent Global Health MD-MPH degree program for the past year, and her involvement with the Pathway and its curriculum has grown from that work. Dr. Graham will also be teaching the Global Health Immersion Program (GHIP) course, in which medical students have an eight-week immersion experience and develop a community-based project between their first and second years. This course (GH 572) provides two academic credits and meets the School of Medicine’s requirement for an Independent Investigative Inquiry. Sites for this year will be in Peru, Uganda, Kenya, and Vietnam. Global health faculty with appropriate sites and an interest in hosting a medical student should contact Dr. Graham at grahamsm@uw.edu.
Dr. Scott McClelland is now coordinating the Global Health Clinical Electives available to fourth-year students. Students apply for this program during their third year.  Accepted students participate in a 6 week clinical elective at an international site during winter or spring of their fourth year. Current sites include hospitals, clinics, and public health programs in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Drs. Graham and McClelland are supported by Daren Wade, Director of the Global Health Resource Center, and Jennifer Lucero-Earle, Assistant Director of the GHRC.
