Botanicals as novel sources of antiviral and anti-inflammatory compounds.

This project is a supplement associated with U41 AT008718-06, The Center for High-Throughput Functional Annotation of Natural Products (HiFAN), and seeks to identify botanical natural products that potently inhibit SARS-CoV-2 and virus-induced inflammation. We are screening selected natural product extracts and pure compounds for suppression of SARS-CoV-2 infection. We are also performing combination studies to identify two- and three-compound synergistic mixtures of natural products that suppress the virus and inflammation. Promising antiviral natural products or extracts will be tested using various technologies in the HiFAN Center to gain immediate insight into mechanisms of cell engagement and action.
