Epstein-Barr virus replication, malaria and clinical outcomes in hospitalized HIV infected children

The study will assess the role of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) viremia and malaria parasitemia in clinical outcomes and B cell activation in children diagnosed with HIV infection in hospital. Clinical endpoints include death, death or continued hospitalization, and duration of hospitalization. Flow cytometry studies will be used to characterize T and B cell activation and memory subsets.
