Arginine sensing in Leishmania and its role in virulence

The overall goal of this project is to identify the signal transduction pathways that mediate the Arginine Deprivation Response (ADR) in Leishmania donovani, which is activated under conditions of arginine starvation. Since the ADR is important for survival of intracellular amastigotes inside macrophage host cells, these results may point the way toward novel approaches for treatment of disease. Funded through a grant from the United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation (BSF).
