Field Epidemiology Training Program Intermediate Course, Tanzania

Field Epidemiology Training Program Intermediate (FETP) Course is a collaboration between the Tanzanian Ministry of Health, CDC, and UW/ITECH to train mid-level health officers in core epidemiology skills to increase capacity to prevent and response to public health threats at the sub-national level. The Intermediate course is a competency-based mentored training for 6 months, including four in-class sessions and three applied field assignments at trainees’ work sites. Trainees conduct evaluations of local surveillance systems and HIV services, perform data quality audits, and participate in outbreak investigations. UW/ITECH leads the course implementation and evaluation, training up to five cohorts throughout the country by 2020. Primary collaborators are the Tanzanian Ministry of Health/FETP and CDC FETP (Tanzania and US). Funding is provided through a 5-year cooperative agreement with CDC.
