SMAP-informed Modeling of Dengue and Chikungunya Risk Along the US/Mexico Border

The goal of this project is to use remotely sensed soil-moisture measurements from NASA's Soil Moisture Active-Passive (SMAP) satellite mission to improve simulations of Ae. aegypti population and dengue/chikungunya virus transmission dynamics. Primarily collaborators are at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), and the University of Arizona (UA). Funding is provided through a NASA Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Science (ROSES) award.
