Center for Structural Genomics of Infectious Diseases

The primary goal of this project is to determine the structure of approximately 65 protein targets from NIAID Category AC and emerging/re-emerging infectious disease organisms each year for a period of five years, with funding guaranteed on a year-by-year basis. This will be accomplished by employing a high-throughput gene-to-structure pipeline involving a multi-pronged serial escalation approach to protein expression followed by structure solution using X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy.

Additionally, three research projects will be initiated each year, to better characterize the molecular functional role of protein targets whose structures have been determined by project.
