Quality Improvement of Primary Health Care and HIV Services

Technical Assistance (TA) to the Ministry of Health (MOH) and implementing partners to improve the quality of HIV and primary health care (PHC) services by building MOH – Provincial Health Departments’ (DPS) and Implementing Partners’ capacity to implement standardized supportive supervision, Clinical Mentoring and Monitoring of activities to improve the quality of HIV/AIDS clinical services. The program is also providing Technical Assistance to sites in order to increase and improve the quality of HIV+ patient clinical monitoring through:

  1. Mentoring and on-the-job training sessions to reinforce clinicians’ knowledge of clinical criteria for HIV treatment failure (TF) in order to increase the number of patients screened for ART failure;
  2. Monitor and promote the use of viral load (VL) testing for patient clinical monitoring.

I-TECH has been involved in the MOH’s Quality Improvement for HIV Care and Treatment Strategy since the inception of the strategy, through the pilot, pilot results analysis, strategy revision, and the development of updated materials to support strategy scale up nationally. After approval of the revised version of the strategy, I-TECH supported a national workshop for the dissemination of the strategy, an orientation supported the methodological orientation for central level facilitators charged with conducting the Training of Trainer for province Level team, and has provided technical assistance to the trainings at the province level.
