Placental Colonization by Treponema Pallidum, Congenital Syphilis & Novel Vaccine Candidates

This proposal aims to identify T. pallidum virulence factors involved in placental colonization during congenital syphilis and to exploit them as potential syphilis vaccines using a novel approach based on a genetically manipulated, non-pathogenic strain of Borrelia burgdorferi to express and deliver T. pallidum antigens.
