Global Health Cost Consortium
The Global Health Cost Consortium (GHCC) was launched in January 2016 to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of HIV and TB prevention and treatment. The cost consortium will thus drive ever-greater value for money of investments to tackle HIV and TB in low and middle-income countries. The consortium was led by the University of Washington (UW) and included teams at Avenir Health, the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Mexico’s National Institute of Public Health (INSP), and the University of Cape Town, South Africa (UCT). These partners are leaders in large-scale HIV and TB cost studies and in the development of models designed to translate economic and epidemiologic data to inform policies and programs. GHCC will improve the availability, quality, timing, and thus the policy-relevance of cost information. The GHCC has published the Reference Case for Estimating the Costs of Global Health Services and Interventions and created a web-based Unit Cost Study Repository with over 2,898 unit costs for HIV and TB for 57 countries from 387 studies. The Unit Cost Study Repository is intended to support the costing of national strategies, assist in Global Fund applications, identify opportunities for sustainability, and be used as an input to economic evaluations. It is organized around interventions categorized by disease and intervention class (e.g., Prevention) consistent with intervention typologies from partners at UNAIDS, WHO, the Global Fund, and PEPFAR. Users can filter data by key characteristics of the intervention (e.g. country, delivery platform, cost perspective) to display relevant data using various data visualizations. The underlying data can be exported in a number of different formats.
