eRX: A socio-technical systems approach for improving tuberculosis diagnosis using mobile health technologies

This project in its last year aims to reduce patient wait times to be diagnosed with Tuberculosis (TB) by developing a user-centered, mobile device-based computing system. The targeted area is the district of Carabayllo, a resource-poor, vulnerable area located in Lima, the capital of Peru. There are two specific objectives in this research. The first specific objective is to investigate, develop, and evaluate a large-scale, real-world, well-annotated, and publicly available chest X-ray image database. The second specific objective is to research, develop, and validate a mobile-based computer-aided system to score the chest radiography image with improved accuracy and reader consistency. Funding is provided through NSF and NIH.
