Finding A Global Health Opportunity

  • Check out the Department of Global Health’s map of experience for faculty and their projects around the world.
  • Visit the DGH Student Blog where there are Student Opportunities, Practicum, and other opportunities posted regularly for all levels of students.
  • Set up information interviews: Set up short meetings with faculty or staff at organizations you’re interested in or who are working within areas of global health that you’d like to work. Explore career options and learn about opportunities as they arise.
  • Attend a DGH Event: Network with presenters and community members (the DGH and SPH hold career events throughout the year that include opportunities for networking including career fairs and workshops).
  • Review funding opportunities

Global Health Fellows Program (GHFP)
The Program develops health professionals at all levels (junior, middle and senior) through fellowship opportunities. Fellowships are limited to two to four years. Internships under this program are established on an on-going basis to encourage the "next generation" of health professionals. Placements are available worldwide, in particular at USAID in Washington and in the field at Missions.

Global Health Trust

UW Language Learning Center (LLC) 
LLC provides services and resources for advancing language study and instruction at the University of Washington. For language students, we offer language learning audio, video, courseware, foreign language computing resources, and the training and support needed to successfully use these resources. For language instructors, we help integrate technology into the language classroom, providing the information, resources, and support necessary to achieve better language learning outcomes.

Educational Outreach English Language Programs 
The mission of the UW Educational Outreach English Language Programs is to further the learning of English among speakers of other languages and to promote global understanding.

Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships (FLAS)

FLAS fellowships provide tuition and health insurance plus a stipend for the study of eligible modern foreign languages. Subject to federal Title VI funding, the University's National Resource Centers will make awards in support of studies related to: Canada; East Asia; Middle East; Russia, East Europe and Central Asia; South Asia; Southeast Asia; and West Europe.

These are competitive fellowships open to graduate and professional students who are US citizens or permanent residents and who meet designated requirements for language study. Applicants to graduate programs compete with current UW students for available awards. Preference is given to students who will begin language study at intermediate or advanced levels.

Seattle Language Academy 
SLA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote language learning among the residents of Puget Sound, and by extension to promote individual growth and the growth of understanding among the citizens of both the region and the world. SLA's wide range of language programs include: day and evening classes for adults in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Ancient and Modern Greek, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.

Critical Language Scholarship Program
A program of United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offer intensive summer language institutes overseas in critical need foreign languages. This program provides fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate, Master’s and Ph.D. students.

Latin Immersion 
The first and only IALC-Approved Schools in Argentina and Chile of the many Spanish language schools in Argentina and Chile, only Latin Immersion has qualified for membership in IALC, International Association of Language Centres. Medical Spanish courses available.
