Emily was raised in Albany, NY and graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Biochemistry. Following graduation, she worked as a research technician in the Mucosal Immunology Lab at Wadsworth Center Laboratory, investigating the role of the mannose receptor in the toxicity and inflammation caused by ricin toxin. Her interest in vaccinology and infectious diseases led her to pursue an M.S. in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh. She continued research at their Center for Vaccine Research, concentrating on the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. Emily chose the UW Pathobiology Program where bench laboratory research and global health are uniquely integrated. She joined Rhea Coler’s laboratory to continue studying influenza. Outside of lab, you can find Emily climbing mountains and playing soccer.
