Familiar ingredients make Afghan Food Guide easy to swallow

Diet recommendations can include unfamiliar foods and preparations.  A digital handbook created by Priyasha Maharjan, doctor of global health leadership and practice student, and fellow UW School of Public Health graduate student Norma Garfias Avila, hopes to begin solving this problem. The Afghan Food Guide is a nutritional resource created for the Afghan community and their health care providers in the U.S. It shows the nutritional values of foods, balanced meals and portion sizes while using dishes and cultural examples familiar to Afghan people.

Although changes in the Earth’s climate are already harming the health of millions of people in the United States and abroad, the federal government is spending little on research on how to address the health effects of climate change, a new study concludes.

Dr. Jeremy Hess, professor of global health, of emergency medicine and of environmental and occupational health sciences at the UW, is quoted.

Welcome DGH's New PhD in Global Health Metrics and Implementation Science Students

The Department of Global Health is thrilled to welcome eight new PhD in Global Health Metrics and Implementation Science students to our community this fall.
