Phosphorylation of Gap Junction Proteins

The goal of this project is to determine how phosphorylation of gap junction proteins regulates cell and tissue function. Specific Aims are to:

1. Mechanistically define phosphorylation events controlling gap junction stability and turnover

2. Characterize changes in Cx43 phosphorylation and function in epidermal wound repair

3. Investigate the in vivo role of Cx43 phosphorylation in the heart during ischemia/reperfusion injury, preconditioning, hypertrophy and pacing.
