Integrating Assisted Partner Services and Phylogenetics for HIV and HCV Prevention

HIV prevalence is approximately 6 times higher in persons who inject drugs (PWID) in Kenya than in the general population and risky behaviors contribute significantly to onward HIV and hepatitis C (HCV) transmission. This study will assist PWID with notifying sexual and needle-sharing partners of exposure to HIV and HCV, and provide counseling, testing, and referrals to care for study participants and their partners. Molecular epidemiology and phylogenetic studies using data collected from this network of PWID and partners will augment understanding of the HIV and HCV epidemics in this key affected population and ultimately improve access to and options for prevention and treatment.
