Complete Genome Sequencing for Genetic Risk Factors of HIV-acquisition

This project entails the use of machine learning methods (e.g. Random Forest) and conventional statistics on whole human genome sequencing data from people with extreme HIV-1 transmission phenotypes (individuals highly exposed to the virus who did not become infected and individuals who became infected at lower exposures). The goal is to identify genomic factors associated with risk of HIV-1 acquisition. This is in collaboration with the UW Department of Statistics and UW Department of Pediatrics and Genome Sciences. This project has utilized funding from the NIH/NIAID with funding for collection of samples through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
