Mainstreaming Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) into the Social Investment Plan (SIP) for Nigeria

Working directly with the Vice-President of Nigeria, I am the lead technical advisor. The President committed $295 million per year to school feeding of the $1.59 billion SIP budget. In essence, the main message is that a fifth of the school age children in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are Nigerian. The long term investment and policy reform on school feeding in Nigeria could therefore see 20% of all school age children in SSA fed on a daily basis. This is a significant investment in the health, education, nutrition and overall development of not only the child, but of the nation and the region.
