Complete genome variation in Africans with extreme HIV-1 transmission phenotypes

The major goal of this project is to identify common and rare genetic variation that is associated with resistance or susceptibility to HIV-1 acquisition.  This project used whole genome sequencing to identify genetic variation both likely to associate with HIV-1 and is using a custom genotyping chip to replicate those associations among a separate sample resistant to HIV-1 infection despite protracted high exposure, and 50 who became HIV-1 infected.
