Counselling and Testing for HIV Curriculum Development: Revision of the training package for Lay counselors and Clinicians in counselling and testing for HIV

The objective of this program is to revise and update the national training curriculum for lay counseling and health professionals and to support the MOH and Implementing Partners in the implementation of HCT trainings.

In COP15, I-TECH Mozambique was charged with the revision: update and upgrade the national training package for HIV counseling and testing. The revised curriculum has been designed to equip lay counselors and clinicians with the knowledge and skills required to provide high quality counseling sessions to clients, including the strengthening of Provider Initiated Counselling and Testing for HIV. This effort will contribute to: the strengthen MOH’s capacity to scale up the HCT services, reinforcement of linkage to and retention in care, and an increase in HIV case finding through index cases, through disclosure of one’s HIV status to partners and testing of partners and children.

The new package is in line with the current guidelines and protocols and contains additional topics such as Gender Based Violence, Prevention with Positives, support to disclosure of HIV status and the notification of sexual partners of HIV+ patients, and adherence and retention in care. The full package is comprised of: Facilitator Manual, Participant Manuals and an evaluation plan.
