USHINDI: Overcoming Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in Eastern Congo

The current program examined the addition of Cognitive Processing Therapy, a psychosocial mental health intervention, to an existing comprehensive services program, as well as utilizing mobile therapy to expand access to care and to better leverage a small number of trained providers. The existing 7-year Ushindi program provides medical, psychosocial, legal, and economic assistance to survivors of sexual violence in the DRC. Ushindi mental health services consists of active-listening therapy provided in villages by laypersons. The current program was designed to expand this model by providing CPT in three new districts as an addition to the existing program.
