Evaulation of TB rule-out tests to improve IPT uptake in people living with HIV

WHO recommends provision of isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) to PLHIV after excluding active TB based on a negative 4-symptom intensified case finding screen (WHO ICF algorithm). The WHO ICF algorithm, developed in PLHIV new to HIV care, has poor sensitivity in ART-treated individuals and has unknown performance when used as a repeated TB screen. ETROT study objectives include: 1) Determine TB prevalence after IPT and evaluate WHO ICF algorithm performance as a TB screen in ART-treated individuals. 2) Investigate participant characteristics and biomarkers that improve TB discrimination compared to WHO ICF algorithm. 3) Derive and assess the effectiveness, cost, and cost-effectiveness of alternative screening strategies to exclude TB.
