Diarrheal disease management in children living in resource-limited settings.

Morbidity and mortality from diarrhea remain unacceptability high among children living in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Through a series of reviews, we will determine the empiric basis of currently used research definitions of diarrhea, critically evaluate the current international guidelines for the identification and management of Shigella¬-infected children, and systematically review interventions for long-term diarrhea sequelae. These literature reviews will contribute to a growing body of literature highlighting the need for updated evidence around diarrheal disease management in pediatric populations and inform research priority setting. Funding is provided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
