National, regional, and global analysis of child anthropometrics, drivers of poor growth, and subsequent health loss

The project goal is to revolutionize our understanding of childhood anthropometrics, the health loss associated with poor growth, and the geographic and temporal specificity with which we can identify drivers of poor growth. We aim to develop a risk calculator tool where high-risk children and populations can be identified and therefore effectively targeted for intervention. Project outputs are meant to serve as an evidence-based platform for designing and implementing context-specific interventions to prevent poor growth, reverse it when present, and minimize its negative consequences on health. We intend to leverage the full complement of analytic tools developed for the GBD and other IHME projects to complete the analytic tasks. Where possible and appropriate, we also intend to integrate the findings, especially on the epidemiology of undernutrition and its associated health loss, into annual updates of the GBD.
