Global Health Career Week

The Department of Global Health has a full week of great events for anyone interested in global health. Our marquee event is the Global Healthies Award Ceremony on Thursday. We also have a Career Fair with more than 20 organizations, a Trivia Night with Prof. Stephen Gloyd, a film on global mental health, a faculty research seminar on the global burden of cardiovascular disease, several information sessions and discussions, and two opportunities to work out with our wonderful staff.

Global Health Practice Series: l 12:30-1:30pm, Harris Hydraulics Building, Room 322
This participatory discussion series is held twice a quarter to discuss issues and challenges related to the project life cycle, leading and managing in complex settings, and professionalism. This is an opportunity for interested students, staff and faculty to dive into the complexities of real-world global health practice. Each session will be facilitated by global health practitioners who will be bringing in their direct expereince of working in the field.

Global Health Career Fair l 10am-2pm, Mary Gates Hall Commons (1st Floor)
This exciting annual event is designed to be a learning opportunity about the work local global health organizations do, what skills, education and experience are valued by these organizations, what the hiring process are like, and more. Representatives from over 20 global health organizations will be available to answer students’ questions and to offer insightful information about career paths in the global health field. Do you have thoughts about serving in health service projects abroad? Have questions on how to search and apply for opportunities abroad? Wonder what it is like to live and work in another country? Come see how current UW students, medical residents and Department of Global Health fellows are involved in global health! Poster session presenters will present their work and are eligible for one of five &500 awards. After the poster session, The Global Healthies Award Ceremony will be held at 6pm, folowed by socializing reception.

Walk through the Mary Gates Hall Commons to meet and speak with representatives from over 20 local global health organizations. Learn what kind of skills, experience and education they look for in potential employees. The fair is from 10am to 2pm.
Faculty Research Seminar Monday on Global Burden of Cardiovascular Disease
The upcoming seminar is, “Measuring the Global Burden of Cardiovascular Disease” presented by Gregory Roth, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Division of Cardiology and Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME); Attending Physician, Harborview Medical Center. The seminar is from 4-5pm, followed by a networking reception.
