Global Health Career Week

Monday, May 4th to Monday, May 11th, 2015

The Department of Global Health has a full week of great events for anyone interested in global health. Our marquee event is the Global Healthies Award Ceremony on Thursday. We also have a Career Fair with more than 20 organizations, a Trivia Night with Prof. Stephen Gloyd, a film on global mental health, a faculty research seminar on the global burden of cardiovascular disease, several information sessions and discussions, and two opportunities to work out with our wonderful staff.

Tuesday, May 5th

Global Health Practice Series: l 12:30-1:30pm, Harris Hydraulics Building, Room 322

This participatory discussion series is held twice a quarter to discuss issues and challenges related to the project life cycle, leading and managing in complex settings, and professionalism. This is an opportunity for interested students, staff and faculty to dive into the complexities of real-world global health practice. Each session will be facilitated by global health practitioners who will be bringing in their direct expereince of working in the field.

 

Wednesday, May 6th

Global Health Career Fair l 10am-2pm, Mary Gates Hall Commons (1st Floor)

This exciting annual event is designed to be a learning opportunity about the work local global health organizations do, what skills, education and experience are valued by these organizations, what the hiring process are like, and more. Representatives from over 20 global health organizations will be available to answer students’ questions and to offer insightful information about career paths in the global health field. See what organizations are participating this year.

Working Abroad Alumni Panel l 3:30pm-5pm,  Health Sciences Building, Room T-625

Do you have thoughts about serving in health service projects abroad? Have questions on how to search and apply for opportunities abroad? Wonder what it is like to live and work in another country? This panel features previous UW Alumni graduate and PhD students who were abroad for various health service projects and can answer your questions!

Are you interested in complementing your undergraduate education with a minor in global health? Come meet with the Global Health Minor Advisors, Jessica Harkhani and Amman Girma from the Global Health Resource Center (GHRC)!

Returned Peace Corps Volunteers Panel l 6pm-7:30pm, HUB, Room 145

Are you interested in the Peace Corps? Please Join us for a panel discussion with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers about their experiences of living and serving in different countries around the world. This is a great opportunity to have your questions answered by the panelist. All majors are welcome!

 

Friday, May 8th

Global Health Trivia Night l 5pm-7pm, Foege Vista Cafe (Foege Building South/Genome Sciences, 2nd Floor)

Join us for a fun night of trivia related to Global Health topics. Come socialize with faculty members and students, test your knoweldge and win great prizes! Dr. Stephen Gloyd (Associate Chair, Department of Global Health) will be our featured MC!


Monday, May 11th

Department of Global Health (DGH) Global Healthies: Student, Medical Resident, and Fellow Poster Session and Awards Ceremony l 5pm-7:30pm, HUB, South Ballroom

Come see how current UW students, medical residents and Department of Global Health fellows are involved in global health! Poster session presenters will present their work and are eligible for one of five &500 awards. After the poster session, The Global Healthies Award Ceremony will be held at 6pm, folowed by socializing reception.
